The Atlanta Braves may have caught a break in regards to the shoulder issue that caused Mike Soroka to be shutdown last week. The hope is that Soroka will be able to resume throwing in the next few days and will be able to pitch in some games towards the end of spring training.

Soroka discussed the injury with the Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s Gabriel Burns on Sunday and said that the soreness he experienced last week was unrelated to the injury that caused him to miss most of the second half of last season.

“We’re pretty sure it’s just kind of an overload thing,” Soroka said. “And that’s on me, a lot of it. It’s tough because you want to do everything you can to get yourself as ready as possible for spring training, especially when it’s been on your mind since June.”

Soroka recently informed the team that he felt some soreness following a side session. However, this time they think that it originated from a strenuous offseason workout program.

That is good news if the soreness goes away once Soroka begins throwing again. Whether he is on the Opening Day roster or not, a healthy Soroka can have a major impact for the Braves this season.
