MLB.com’s Mark Bowman makes his guess for what Atlanta’s Opening Day roster will look like. Honestly, there isn’t a lot of intrigue on the position player side although there are a few questions that will need to be answered with the pitching staff.

MadBum on opener: ‘I’m walking out of the ballpark’

Giants starter Madison Bumgarner is not a fan of the opener strategy. At Giants’ FanFest on Saturday manager Bruce Bochy said that Bumgarner texted him during the Winter Meetings after he heard that the Giants were considering using openers this season. His response:

“If you’re using an opener in my game, I’m walking right out of the ballpark,” Bumgarner told Bochy.

Pirates To Sign Melky Cabrera

The Pittsburgh Pirates and outfielder Melky Cabrera have agreed on a minor league contract that includes an invite to spring training. Cabrera will reportedly earn a guaranteed $1.5 million if he makes the big league roster.

Padres Pursuing Mike Moustakas

The San Diego Padres are reportedly chasing a number of free agents including third baseman Mike Moustakas. Reports suggest that the Brewers are the favorites to ultimately land Moustakas but the Padres are making an effort.

A’s GM David Forst still unsure if Kyler Murray will report

A’s GM David Frost told reporters on Sunday that they are still talking to outfielder Kyler Murray as he is still deciding which path he will take. Oakland remains unsure of if or when Murray might report to spring training.
