Sabathia’s health may affect timetable for Gray deal

It may just be posturing but the New York Yankees may be planning to hang onto right-hander Sonny Gray through the start of the season depending on the health of starter CC Sabathia who had a stent inserted back on December 11. Of course Yankees GM Brian Cashman did mention that they would move Gray should they receive what they deem a “proper return.”

“Our intention is to move Sonny Gray and relocate him when we get the proper return, in our estimation,” Cashman said. “It’ll happen this winter, it’ll happen in the spring or it’ll happen sometime during the season. The CC circumstance certainly has given us pause, because we want to make sure that we’re covered and protected.”

Avila: Tigers not pressed to move Castellanos

Perhaps more posturing but Tigers GM Alex Avila recently told the media that they are not feeling pressed to move outfielder Nick Castellanos. Like Cashman and the Yankees, Avila is searching for what he considers a “proper return” for Castellanos who is entering the final year of his contract.

Mets Acquire Keon Broxton

The New York Mets acquired outfielder Keon Broxton from the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for relief pitcher Bobby Wahl and minor leaguers Adam Hill and Felix Valerio.
