Fred McGriff falls short in final attempt. Andruw Jones will remain on the ballot

MLB: ALDS-Cleveland Indians at New York Yankees Adam Hunger-USA TODAY Sports

The ballots are in and for the first time ever there a player has been a unanimous selection. Former Yankees’ closer Mariano Rivera received all 425 votes from the baseball writers to take his spot among the game’s greats.

Joining Rivera in the 2019 Hall of Fame class are former Mariners’ DH Edgar Martinez and right-handers Roy Halladay and Mike Mussina. They join Lee Smith and Harold Baines who were elected earlier this winter by the Today’s Game era committee. The induction ceremony will be held on July 21 in Cooperstown, NY.

Rivera is the first unanimous selection in Hall of Fame history. Ken Griffey Jr fell three votes shy of a unanimous selection in 2016. Players needed to receive 75 percent of the vote to gain election. Halladay and Martinez received 85.4 percent while Mussina checked in at 76.7 percent.

Notables that fell short of induction include Curt Schilling (60.9), Roger Clemens (59.5), Barry Bonds (59.1), and Larry Walker (54.6). Omar Vizquel received 42.8 percent of the vote.

As expected, Fred McGriff saw an increase in support (39.8) but fell shy of induction in his 10th and final year on the ballot. Andruw Jones received 7.5 percent and will remain on the ballot.

Here is a look at the full voting results:
