Braves announce 2019 minor league coaching staffs

Braves make several changes for 2019.

The Atlanta Braves officially announced their minor league coaching staffs and roving instructors for the 2019 season on Wednesday. There are several changes in the mix with new managers at Florida, Rome and Danville.

Gwinnett

Manager - Damon Berryhill
Pitching Coach - Mike Maroth
Hitting Coach - Bobby Magallanes
Coach - Einar Díaz

Berryhill is back for his third season as Gwinnett’s manager. Mike Maroth served as pitching coach for Single-A Florida last season. Magallanes comes from outside the organization after spending last season as part of Cleveland’s Triple-A staff in Columbus. Díaz was part of Baltimore’s major league coaching staff in 2018.

Mississippi

Manager - Chris Maloney
Pitching Coach - Dennis Lewallyn
Hitting Coach - Carlos Mendez
Coach - Alfredo Amezaga

The Mississippi staff remains intact with manager Chris Maloney returning for his second season with the club along with pitching coach Dennis Lewallyn and hitting coach Carlos Mendez. Alfredo Amezaga will make his coaching debut after a 19-year playing career.

Florida

Manager - Barrett Kleinknect
Pitching Coach - Dan Meyer
Hitting Coach - Doug DeVore
Coach - Porky López

Barrett Kleinknect moves up from rookie-level Danville to serve as Florida’s manager. Dan Meyer moves up a level after serving as pitching coach at Rome in 2018. Doug DeVore will make his coaching debut as the team’s hitting coach.

Rome

Manager - Matt Tuiasosopo
Pitching Coach - Kanekoa Texeira
Hitting Coach - Bobby Moore
Coach Wigberto Nevarez

Rome’s coaching staff will have a new look in 2019. Matt Tuiasosopo will make his coaching debut as Rome’s manager replacing Rocket Wheeler who was let go by the organization. Kanekoa Texeira will serve as the team’s pitching coach while Bobby Moore will be the lone holdover on the staff as the team’s hitting coach.

Danville

Manager - Anthony Nuñez
Pitching Coach - Jason Stanford
Hitting Coach - Danny Santiesteban
Coach - Connor Narron

Anthony Nuñez will serve as Danville’s manager after spending last season as part of Rome’s coaching staff. Jason Stanford will serve as the team’s pitching coach while Danny Santiesteban moves up from the DSL team to take over as hitting coach. Connor Narron will make his coaching debut as part of the staff after retiring from playing following the 2016 season.

GCL Braves

Manager - Nestor Pérez
Pitching Coach - Elvin Nina
Hitting Coaches - Rick Albert, Barbaro Garbey
Coach Angel Flores

Nestor Perez, Elvin Nina and Rick Albert all return to the GCL Braves in 2018. They will be joined by second hitting coach Barbaro Garbey and Angel Flores.

DSL Braves

Manager - Jefferson Romero
Pitching Coaches - José Rodriguez, Hector Astacio
Hitting Coaches - Omar Rosario, Elvis De La Cruz Peña

Jefferson Romero returns for his second season as manager of the DSL Braves.

The team also announced its roving staffs for the upcoming season. Doug Mansolino will serve as the organization’s new field coordinator. Mansolino spent the last five seasons in the same position with the Philadelphia Phillies. Dave Wallace (director of pitching), Derrick Lewis (pitching coordinator), Mike Brumley (hitting coordinator), Jeff Datz (catching coordinator), Adam Everett (infield coordinator), John “T-Bone” Shelby (outfielder/baserunning coordinator) and Mike Schofield (minor league strength and conditioning coordinator) all will reprise their 2018 roles next season, while Ryan Driscoll will work as the club’s assistant minor league strength and conditioning coordinator.
