Five Bold Predictions: 2018

It's that time again! Make your Five Bold Predictions for 2018 in the comments below.

For the past two years I’ve asked the TC Community to make five predictions about the Braves before the upcoming season (hat tip to fastatlast and Fangraphs for giving me the idea). To reduce some of the inevitable overlap in predictions, this year I’m expanding the pool of teams and players to include the rest of NL East, in addition to the Braves. So, if you want to predict that Bryce Harper hits .220, or that the Marlins lose 120 games, or that Matt Harvey is released by the Mets, go right ahead.

If you haven’t participated in the past, the idea is that the predictions must be bold. In this context, bold means unlikely. A bold prediction is one on which you should definitely not bet even money. For instance, predicting Freddie Freeman to be a 7 WAR player in 2018 is risky enough. Predicting Freddie to hit 35 homers probably falls short, even though it would be a new career high for him.

Predictions can be about anything related to the Braves, whether it’s the major-league team or minor-league affiliates, the NL-East, or even the TC Community (including Ivan’s cat). If you want to predict Ronald Acuna’s wRC+, Newcomb’s win loss record, Snitker’s bullpen management, AA’s trades, or Dansby’s haircut, it’s all good. Those looking for inspiration can check out last year’s predictions or consult some of the bold predictions made by Fangraphs writers. Predictions can be positive or negative, with the exception of predictions about Bryce Harper, which must be negative (just kidding, but not really).

I will get around to doing a retrospective on the 2017 predictions soon, but I wanted to go ahead and get this up, so anyone interested had plenty of time to make predictions before the season got rolling.

So, prognosticate away TCers, and remember that fortune favors the bold.
