Sean Newcomb allowed just one earned run and struck out three over 4.2 innings today against the Cardinals. His performance this spring has apparently been enough to secure him a spot in the Atlanta Braves’ Opening Day rotation.
Brian Snitker discussed Newcomb’s performance following the game and told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s Gabe Burns that he had pitched his way on to the rotation.
No surprise: Sean Newcomb has made the Braves rotation.

"He's pitched his way on," manager Brian Snitker said.
Snitker went on to discuss the improvement that Newcomb had made pointing out his improved confidence, competitiveness and presence on the mound.
Snit on Sean Newcomb: "it's amazing where he's at to me from a year ago, how much improvement that guy's made. The whole game, the confidence, his mound presence, the competitiveness, the whole thing from a year ago is so much better" #Braves

Newcomb has made five appearances this spring allowing nine hits and four earned runs over 15.1 innings. He has struck out 15 while walking just five.
The Braves are expected to go with a four man rotation to begin the season due to a couple of off days. This news is bad news for veteran Scott Kazmir who was also competing for the final rotation spot.
