Matt Adams sent the game to extra innings with a three-run home run in the ninth off of closer Kenley Jansen but Logan Forsythe came through in the 10th to give the Dodgers a 5-4 win.
Atlanta entered the ninth trailing 4-1 and appeared to be facing a tough hill to climb having mustered just two hits through the first eight innings. Freddie Freeman got things started with an opposite field single. Matt Kemp followed with a hit of his own to bring the tying run to the plate.
Jansen retired Nick Markakis on a fly out for the first out of the inning. Tyler Flowers then came to the plate and hit a rocket to left field that Chris Taylor was able to run down for the second out. That set stage for Adams who got a 1-1 fastball from Jansen that he pulled into the right field stands to tie the game.

Arodys Vizcaino worked a scoreless ninth and gave way to Jim Johnson in the 10th. Taylor led off the inning with a bloop hit right but was erased at second on a fielder’s choice by Corey Seager. Justin Turner followed with a single to left center that moved Seager all the way to third. After an intentional walk to Cody Bellinger, Logan Forsythe singled through the drawn in infield to give the Dodgers the walk-off win.
Clayton Kershaw began the day on the mound for the Dodgers but exited after just two innings due to tightness in his lower back. Trainers came out to check on Kershaw with two outs in the second. After a couple of warm up pitches he stayed in the game and issued a walk to Flowers before coming back to strike out Adams to end the frame. The Dodgers pinch hit for Kershaw in the bottom half of the frame with Ross Stripling coming on in relief.
Stripling retired the first two batters he faced in the third but a walk to Ender Inciarte came back to haunt him. Inciarte stole second and then scored on an opposite field double by Brandon Phillips to put Atlanta in front 1-0.
Sean Newcomb struggled with his command early on but was able to work his way out of trouble. A double and two walks in the second loaded the bases for Los Angeles but Newcomb came back to strike out Trayce Thompson to end the threat.
After holding the Dodgers scoreless in the third, Newcomb ran into more trouble in the fourth. Back to back walks to Forsythe and Enrique Hernandez set things in motion. He then got ahead of catcher Austin Barnes 0-2 before leaving a 95 mph fastball on the inner half of the plate that Barnes lined into the left field bleachers just inside the foul pole for a three-run home run to put the Dodgers up 3-1.
Newcomb seemed to find himself after the home run. He worked a scoreless fifth and sixth striking out three while walking none. He finished the day having allowed three hits and three runs over six innings to go along with a career high five walks, and nine strikeouts.
The Dodgers scored their fourth run of the game in the ninth when Cody Bellinger took Rex Brothers deep for a solo home run.
Despite the loss, the Braves still manage a split in the series and will head to Arizona with a 47-50 record. Atlanta will open a three-game set against the Diamondbacks on Monday.
