Matt Kemp homered and Jaime Garcia turned in a solid performance on the mound to help the Atlanta Braves to a 7-1 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks. The win gives Atlanta a three-game sweep over Arizona and helps them reach the .500 mark for the season.

The Braves didn’t waste any time going to work against Diamondbacks starter Zach Godfrey. Ender Inciarte led off the game with a single and scored on a double by Brandon Phillips to put the Braves on the board early 1-0.

Atlanta added another run in the second as Dansby Swanson reached on an infield single to shortstop Ketel Marte who’s throw went into the camera well allowing Matt Adams to score.

The Braves kept Godfrey on the ropes in the third. Phillips led off the inning with a double and Freddie Freeman followed with a walk. Matt Kemp then jumped on a first pitch fastball and drove it into the left field stands for a three-run homer to put Atlanta up 5-0. It was Kemp’s 13th home run of the season and his first since June 21.

The Braves weren’t finished however as Matt Adams followed with a solo shot two batters later to increase the lead to 6-0.

Arizona’s lone run came in the fourth as Paul Goldschmidt singled home David Peralta to cut the deficit to 6-1. The Braves answered right back in the bottom half of the inning when Phillips doubled home Inciarte to push the lead to 7-1.

On the mound, Garcia was coming off of five straight starts where he had allowed at least five runs in each. Garcia set the tone early on Sunday allowing four hits and just one run over seven innings of work. He struck out seven while walking three.

Godley settled down and pitched a pair of scoreless innings in the fifth and sixth but takes the loss after allowing eight hits and seven runs (six earned) over six innings. He struck out nine and walked just one.

Luke Jackson and Akeel Morris worked a scoreless inning each in relief of Garcia.

Atlanta’s top of the order beat up the Diamondbacks again as Inciarte and Phillips combined to go 5-for-7 with two RBIs and three runs scored. Phillips’ three doubles were a career-high. Goldschmidt had two hits for Arizona.

The Braves will be back in action on Monday when they open a three-game series against the Chicago Cubs.
