Memorial Day was a short day on the farm with just two teams in action, and Rome had half of their double header rained out. However we did get to see Joey Wentz come off the disabled list with a strong performance, a number of Rome hitters stayed red hot, and Adonis Garcia’s bat came alive in the third game of his rehab stint with Gwinnett.
Gwinnett Braves 4, Syracuse Chiefs 3 - 10 innings
Boxscore
- Ozzie Albies, 2B: 1-4, R
- Adonis Garcia, 3B: 4-5, 2 2B, RBI
- Patrick Weigel, SP: 5.2 IP, 8 H, 2 BB, 2 R, 1 K
Patrick Weigel didn’t have his best game as he was prone to giving up hits, but in spite of not getting as much help as possible from his defense he was able to minimize the damage against him. Weigel made it 5.2 innings and allowed just a pair of runs to keep the Braves in it long enough to earn the win in extra innings. After he left Akeel Morris, Enrique Burgos, Rhiner Cruz, and Mauricio Cabrera combined to go 4.1 innings, allowing just one run on a total of four base runners.
After a pair of fairly quiet games to start his rehab assignment, Adonis Garcia stepped up at the plate and went four of five with a pair of doubles. Ozzie Albies had a single and a sacrifice. There wasn’t much offense in this one, but Carlos Franco and Johan Camargo each had a double in the win.

At the plate Brett Cumberland continued his hot streak, going two of four with a walk, double, and RBI and raised his triple slash line to .272/.455/.544- or a .999 OPS.
