Braves place Adonis Garcia on the 10-day disabled list (Achilles)

The Braves will need someone else to help man third base even more than usual, at least for a little while.

Adonis Garcia has been the subject of much debate amongst Braves fans due to the non-exhaustive reasons of his defensive acumen (or lack thereof), platoon splits, and the presence of potentially more exciting options in the farm system or on the roster. Thus far this season, he has slashed .237/.278/.348 while posting a less than good -0.4 fWAR. When the Braves did not start him earlier today against the Blue Jays, a few folks noticed his absence but did not think much about it.

It appears as though there was more to his absence than just giving him a day off.

Tendinitis is always a tricky injury designation as this could range anywhere from a short absence from the active roster to something that lingers for a while. It is also unclear as to how long Adonis has been dealing with the injury, especially since he has been okay at the plate of late for the most part (hit safely in 9 of 11 games in the month of May).

While the Braves have not announced who is getting called up, the obvious candidate would be Johan Camargo who has already been called up once by the Braves, can play 3rd base and elsewhere in the infield, and has been performing well down in AAA. The move that would likely excite fans more would be Rio Ruiz, who has been heating up for Gwinnett. Friend of the blog Grant McAuley seems to be excited about him as well.

We will likely have to wait until Wednesday to find out who will be on the roster, but it is likely that whoever is called up will share time over at the hot corner with Jace Peterson who seems to be pretty entrenched in a super utility role for the Braves despite his struggles at the plate.
