Braves' bullpen competition heating up among trio
Mark Bowman of MLB.com writes that competition is rising between three viable candidates for a spot in the Braves bullpen on Opening Day. Eric O’Flaherty, Blaine Boyer, and Chaz Roe each have an opportunity to break camp with the club, and manager Brian Snitker is more interested in the eye test than the box score:
"You're looking more at stuff with those guys than you are with results," Braves manager Brian Snitker said. "They're all throwing the ball pretty good. So, you're looking between the lines with guys like that, because they have been through the wars."
Freeman wholeheartedly endorses Classic experience
By now Freddie Freeman’s backstory is well known with regards to his allegiance to Canada in this year’s World Baseball Classic. Freeman’s mother was the driving force behind his choice to suit up with the Canadian squad, and in the aftermath of their elimination Freeman spoke glowingly about the experience, not only for its sentimentality but also its benefits competitively:
"There's no greater way for me to honor her and my family than to play for her country," Freeman said. "It was a pretty emotional day for me on Thursday to hear the Canadian national anthem. It was just a pretty special moment for everybody."
"I think it can only benefit you. You're playing meaningful games. A lot of people aren't mentally ready for that, but I got off to such a slow start last year that I was willing to try anything this year."
