Dansby Swanson and Freddie Freeman had big days at the plate but an eighth inning implosion sent them to a 10-7 loss.
Swanson was locked in from the start going 3 for 3 with a double and an RBI. Freeman finished with two hits and knocked in three runs while Adonis Garcia was 3 for 4 including a double and two RBIs.
The Braves struck first in the top of the first as Swanson singled and later scored on a double by Garcia. The Tigers came right back with a run in the first and the second off of Braves starter R.A. Dickey who was making his spring debut. The second run scored on an error by second baseman Travis Demeritte. Dickey pitched two innings allowing one earned run, two hits and a walk.
The Braves retook the lead in the third on a two run single by Freeman. Garcia followed with a single to score Swanson to make it 4-2. Atlanta extended the lead to 6-2 in the fourth with run scoring hits by Swanson and Freeman again.
Braves lefty prospect Max Fried had an impressive spring debut for the Braves in the sixth. Fried came in and retired Miguel Cabrera and J.D. Martinez on ground outs while striking out Justin Upton to end the inning.
Things completely unraveled for the Braves and relievers Chaz Roe and Jason Hursh. Detroit scored eight times thanks to seven hits, three walks and a couple of errors by Johan Camargo.
Roe retired none of the six batters he faced allowing five runs on four hits to go along with a pair of walks. Hursh came in and got Brendan Ryan to ground into a double play but was tagged for three runs and three hits before the inning was over.
The Braves added a single run in the ninth on a triple by Camargo to round out the scoring.
Atlanta returns to Disney on Tuesday where they will host the St. Louis Cardinals.
