In what has become an annual rite of passage it seems every spring, the Atlanta Braves are reportedly among the teams that are interested in Kelly Johnson according to FanRag’s Jon Heyman.
Braves are among teams considering Kelly Johnson. Off nice year, he's still seeking an MLB deal.— Jon Heyman (@JonHeyman) February 21, 2017
Johnson has gone to spring training with the Braves in each of the past two seasons only to be dealt to the New York Mets. In 2015, Johnson and Juan Uribe netted the Braves John Gant and Rob Whalen. Last season, Atlanta picked up reliever Akeel Morris.
The Braves have been linked to Johnson and former outfielder Jeff Francoeur since before spring training began. The hangup according to reports is that both are seeking a major league deal.
Johnson hit .215 in 49 games with the Braves last season but performed well with the Mets putting up a .268/.328/.459 line to go along with nine home runs. His ability to fit in the infield as well as both corner outfield spots makes him an intriguing option for a lot of teams.
