The regular season wrapped up on Sunday afternoon, and while there was little drama in regards to postseason play, the top picks in next summer’s draft were up for grabs. As the dust settled, the Braves secured the 8th overall pick in the 2018 Draft.
The 8th pick in 2017 had a slot value of $4,780,400. Here’s a look at the top-8 order:
- Tigers (64-98; own tiebreaker over San Francisco by 1⁄2 game)
- Giants (64-98)
- Phillies (66-96)
- White Sox (67-95)
- Reds (68-94)
- Mets (70-92)
- Padres (71-91)
- Braves (72-90)
Atlanta ended the year losing six of its final seven games to finish with a 72-90 record. That marked a three-win improvement from 2016 and was right in line with most preseason projections.
Since taking over, John Coppolella and co. have had the 14th, 3rd and 5th overall picks in the last three drafts. Kolby Allard, Ian Anderson and Kyle Wright were the club’s top selections in each of those years.
