Take a gander at some unfortunate history that was just made: the Rockies swept the Braves in a four-game series for the first time ever with an 11-3 win on Sunday. The Braves have now lost five straight.
Through five innings, Alex Wood quarantined the Rockies offense to three runs in the second inning, and did his best to give his teammates a chance to come back. Chad Bettis, though, didn't look like the guy who got shelled for 10 runs in his previous start, holding the Braves to just two hits through five innings. At last, Atlanta's offense broke through in the sixth by batting around, tying the game at three on run-scoring hits by Kelly Johnson, A.J. Pierzynski, and Jonny Gomes.
Wood ran into trouble in the home sixth, and was one out away from escaping unscathed. Unfortunately for him and the Braves, Charlie Blackmon, who already had two hits and two RBI, singled home two more runs to put the Rockies ahead. After giving up another hit, Wood was done, but the Rockies offense wasn't. Troy Tulowitzki would break the game open with a three-run homer off David Carpenter for an 8-3 lead.
In the seventh, Drew Stubbs widened the gap with a two-run shot, his second homer of the series. Three straight hits in the eighth added another run for the Rockies.
One of the few bright spots in this game for the Braves was Eury Perez, who had three of Atlanta's eight hits.
