(2-1) Salt River Rafters vs. (1-2) Peoria Javelinas 5
- Andrew Thurman, RP: 2 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 1 HB, 1 K
- Daniel Winkler, RP: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K
- Johan Camargo, SS: 2-4, 1 BB, 1 RBI
The Javelinas offense played well all night, putting up runs 7 runs in 9 different innings but was unable to get the win against the Rafters. The Nationals Chris Bostick was the hero in this one with two 2-out, 2 run homer runs in the 6th and 8th innings. Andrew Thurman had a rough outing in his Javelinas debut. He struggled with command in his 2 innings of work (28 pitches-15 strikes) and was not assisted much by his defense. He was the first of 3 Javelinas pitchers to cough up a lead tonight. Daniel WInkler had a much better night, actually putting up a pretty nice stat line in his one inning of work. He led all of the minor leagues in strikeouts in 2013 and does not seem to be slowing down even after undergoing Tommy John surgery. He is the only Braves prospect in the AFL with a legitimate shot of making the big league club out of Spring Training next year (although it is a slim one) and will be a very interesting prospect to watch this fall. Johan Camargo has had a very nice start to his season with a 2-4 performance yesterday and his 1-4 in his first game. He had an RBI single in the 9th while the Javelinas were trying to mount a comeback, but that fell short when the tying run grounded into a double play to end the game.
Tomorrow will be the final half of Peoria's 2 game series with the Rafters. They play at the Salt River Rafters at 6:35pm MT/8:35 PM ET.
