It was a busy week for mock drafts and with the 2020 MLB Draft just over a week away, we will probably see quite a few more. Previously we focused on mock drafts from ESPN’s Kiley McDaniel and The Athletic’s Keith Law who both projected Duke right-hander Bryce Jarvis to the Atlanta Braves with the 25th pick of the first round.
Today, we take a look at FanGraphs’ prospect writer Eric Longenhagen’s first mock draft which came out earlier this week. Longenhagen projected Ohio State catcher Dillon Dingler to the Braves at No. 25.
Dingler is the best up-the-middle college bat left and the Braves seem to value those at a premium.
Per Baseball America, Dingler has been a regular in Ohio State’s lineup since he joined the team as a freshman. He has displayed impressive defensive ability at both catcher and centerfield. He is described as a natural leader and has big league ready arm strength throwing out 21 of 42 attempted runners. Offensively he was just starting to come into his own. Through 10 games in 2020 he had a OPS of 1.164 with five homers through 35 at-bats.
