J.T. Realmuto homered and drove in two runs while the Braves were unable to solve Marlins’ starter Adam Conley in a 5-2 loss at Fort Bragg Field.
Matt Wisler got off to a great start for Atlanta striking out five of the first six hitters he faced. He cruised through the first four innings before finally running into trouble in the fifth. J.T. Realmuto’s bloop single to center scored Adeiny Hechavarria to plate the first run of the evening for the Marlins. Martin Prado followed with a single and later scored on an RBI hit off the bat of Christian Yelich.
Miami added an insurance run off Wisler in the seventh when Prado singled home Realmuto to extend the lead to 3-0. The Marlins would add single runs in the eighth and ninth. Derek Dietrich extended the lead to 4-0 in the eighth with a sacrifice fly while Realmuto led off the ninth with a long home run over the centerfield wall.
The Braves finally broke through in the ninth when Erick Aybar doubled to right to score Tyler Flowers to cut the deficit to 5-1. A.J. Pierzynski followed with a sacrifice fly to center to score Jeff Francoeur to bring in Atlanta's second run but Jace Peterson struck out with Erick Aybar at third to end the game.
Adam Conley picks up the win for Miami after allowing four hits over six scoreless innings. Conley hasn’t allowed a run in his last 14 innings against Atlanta. Wisler takes the loss after allowing 10 hits and three runs over six innings of work.
Realmuto goes 3-for-5 in the game with a homer and two RBIs. Christian Yelich also went 3-for-5 and is 6-for-7 in his career against Wisler. Martin Prado also went 3-for-5 and drove in a run.
Freddie Freeman and Erick Aybar finished with two hits each for Atlanta. The Braves were a combined 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position in the game.
Atlanta heads out on the road on Monday when they open a seven-game road trip in Philadelphia against the Phillies.
