This game was perfect for those who are proponents of wind power.
Alex Wood and Jose Fernandez put up 25 K's between them, but it was Fernandez who ended up the victor in Miami's 1-0 win over the Braves.
A fourth-inning single by Casey McGehee followed Giancarlo Stanton's double, resulting in the lone run of this contest. Otherwise, Wood matched Fernandez for eight innings. Wood's 11 strikeouts set a new career high, while Fernandez matched his best with 14. Braves hitters had no chance at all against Fernandez, who was dealing, managing just three singles. One highlight for Wood is that at one point, he struck out four hitters in a row; he only allowed four hits.
All told, there were 28 total strikeouts in the game. That's the most strikeouts in a game without a walk since 1914. 25 of the 28 were swinging.
Alex Wood, unfortunately, winds up on the short end of his second straight 1-0 game.
