Julio Teheran is the next of the Braves' young players to get a massive contract extension. The team announced a six-year contract with the 23-year-old right handed pitcher, with an option to extend it through 2020, which would cover Teheran's first two years of free agency.
The six guaranteed years are for $32.4 million, with the seventh-year option worth $12 with a $1 million buyout.
Frank Wren told the AJC that this is part of a long-term plan to lock up the Braves core.
"It gets us through his first couple of free-agent years. Again, (the goal is to) hold onto our young players, and again a lot of this is the product of having the opportunity to move into Cobb County and into a new ballpark and hopefully an area that allows us to stay competitive for the long term."
