In somber news, Lynchburg Hillcats team president Rex Angel died at the age of 85 last week.
Rex Angel, Lynchburg Hillcats’ team president and member of the Lynchburg Baseball Corporation since its 1965 inception, passed away at Lynchburg General Hospital Wednesday afternoon because of injuries suffered in a fall at his home last week. Angel was 85.
Angel’s condition had been considered serious since he was admitted to the hospital after his fall.
“Rex’s passing is a great loss for the Hillcats and Lynchburg,” Hillcats general manager Paul Sunwall said in a team-issued release. “He was a dear friend to all of us, and someone we all care deeply for.”
Angel began his association with Lynchburg Baseball Corporation in 1965 as an accountant. In 1978, he became a stockholder and was later named an LBC vice president and member of the executive committee. He ascended to the title of LBC president in November.
Rest In Peace Rex.
