Let's hope he's not thinking about retirement.
Disturbing news out of Atlanta Braves spring training camp today, about one of the best players to ever wear the Atlanta uniform:
"Tomorrow might be my last day," he said "I don’t know. I don’t really focus on it that much. The body is starting to tell me every morning when I wake up that it’s getting close. I’m signed through the end of this year. If I play in a certain amount of games, I got an option for next year. I don’t know what next year entails.
"I don’t know if I can make it through this year."
A stark truth from Chipper Jones, but we've heard him speak similarly before. Like anyone would, Chipper can get down when things aren't going his way, and right now he's struggling to catch up just as the rest of the team is struggling to find any positives in this miserable March.
Though he has never used language this strong, remember that Chipper has hinted at retirement many times before.
"The big reason for me coming back was my teammates wanted me to come back," he said. "I still feel like I can be a productive major leaguer. We’ll give it this year and see how it feels."
I hope Chipper gives us at least one more spectacular year.
