He was on this week's Talking Chop Atlanta Braves Minor League Hot Sheet, but a higher honor for pitching prospect Mike Minor is being named this week's International League's Pitcher of the Week. Here is the writeup that the league published in giving him this honor:
Braves left-hander Mike Minor turned in a pair of solid performances this week, collecting his first win and allowing just seven hits and two runs in 12.2 innings pitched. Monday afternoon in Durham, Minor tossed 6.0 impressive frames during which he surrendered four hits, but one of them was a solo home run by Justin Ruggiano. Minor left with the game tied 1-1, denying him his first victory of 2011. He wouldn't have to wait much longer though, as he earned the win Saturday night in Charlotte. Against the Knights, Minor gave up just three hits and a run over 6.2 innings, walking three but striking out eight as the Braves defeated Charlotte 3-1. Minor recorded 13 strikeouts over the two starts, tying for the League lead for the week. On the season, Minor is 5th in the IL with 22 punch-outs and is 6th with a 1.45 ERA.
Congrats to Minor. It's nice to see him continuing to improve and refine his game.
