In the bottom of the first at today's spring training game between the Cardinals and Braves, Minor League Manager Luis Salazar was hit in the face with a batted ball and then air-lifted to the hospital. Play was stopped for ten minutes or more while Salazar was attended to. The photo above was taken a half inning before Salazar was hit, but you can see all the players hanging on the rail, and I've highlighted Salazar with a red arrow on the very left.
Brian McCann was the Braves player who hit the foul ball that struck Salazar. McCann left the game, too shaken to continue.
We all hope that Luis Salazar is okay.
Update (3:40pm) from David O'Brien. "Salazar was breathing on his own again and had regained consciousness." Very scary turn of events today.
The solemn scene as Salazar is loaded into the ambulance.:
Thanks to Talking Chop readers Eric, Todd, and Josh for their updates and picutres from the park.
