Atlanta Braves Fan Confidence Plummets!

Understandably and predictably the Atlanta Braves Fan Confidence plummeted this week, dropping 27 points from last week's 78% confidence to this week's meager 51% confidence. This is the lowest the Braves fan confidence has been since September 11th of last year, when the FCP was at 49%. This is also the first time in 2010 that the FCP has been below 70%.

Braves fans had a lot of confidence in this team all off-season which carried over into the start of the regular season, but that positive attitude seems to have disappeared. Everyone is rightfully baffled at the recent slump the Braves find themselves in the midst of. Hopefully this collective team-wide batting slump will not last much longer, and the Braves will hit their offensive stride. Though that seems like wishful thinking at this point.

How much longer does heyward struggle before we send him back to AAA? I’m not saying we should, this is really like a poll question. Do the braves keep him in the big leagues no matter how much he struggles? Or is there a point where they feel he needs more development time? Personally I think the braves will be waiving the white flag on the season if they send him down.

We don’t. But the argument for starting him in AAA sounds pretty good right now.

Here are Pujols's stats: 1.000/1.000/4.000/5.000. That's right. He is batting a thousand, with a thousand OBP (naturally), and every hit has been a home run, and thus his OPS is a perfect 5.000.

What about the argument to have started him off there, saving money and potentially avoiding the “slump”?

We aren’t sending him down. He’d have to be doing much worse than Schafer was last year to get sent down I’d imagine

by eaheckman10 on Apr 29, 2010 10:25 AM EDT up reply actions

Why would the Braves want to send down a hitter with a .806 OPS? Heyward is not the problem.

by redwards95 on Apr 29, 2010 11:40 AM EDT up reply actions

exactly

Even with his struggles, he’s one of the top 4 hitters in the lineup right now and definitely the best outfield bat. You can’t send him down.

Personally...

…I feel like this confidence poll doesn’t really show how the true TCers feel. Maybe I’m wrong, but there were a ton of 1 or 2 votes. I don’t think any of us are really feeling that terrible right now, and from what I was reading it seemed like alot in the 6-8 range. If I had to put a number on it based on that, I’d probably say the confidence poll is probably around a 67-71% right now. But I’m just speculating.

I’m thinking people might not be buying the Small Sample Size argument right about now. The Braves look bad at the plate and borderline inept in the field. I’m pretty sure most Braves fans know they actually can hit, and can field and throw. Massive frustration was taken out in this weeks poll, the Braves and the FCP will be back to normal before long.

The team is playing terribly. It’s no shock the fans lose confidence. There are better days ahead (I hope). The fan confidence will recover in stride with the team’s bats.

We ain't losers!

The Braves haven’t lost the year. I’m confident that hitters are rebounding, and the hitters will come around eventually. We’ve done worse, and we can do better.

We’re just getting the losin’ out of our systems right now, so we can win during the Postseason. Go Braves!

Little known fact: Jason Heyward uses a bat made from one of Chuck Norris’ femurs.

Every team is going to have ups and downs.

I wouldn’t put too much into the fan polls, as many of the results are likely more tied to the last 6 games and less to the season as a whole. If you want to feel a little better about the results of the poll, the Metsblog fan poll was at 3% prior to the opening day game (yes THREE percent).

“It’s always darkest before dawn.” The Braves will pull out of this. Everything seems to be going to hell right now, but things will improve. We know what these guys can do, and so do they.

Faith and hope are fading

At the end of the day, Braves are only 4 1/2 games out. I just can’t ever remember being this demoralized. I remember when two on, nobody out got me excited. Now I just get a feeling of dread. Wondering what embarrassing way they’ll squander the base runners. Need a win today! Go Braves!!

Polls are by definition a function of reactionary thinking

Of course it’ll slide lower…..most people aren’t voting on their confidence in our farm system or Turner Field management.

As long as the Braves continue to play on a level slightly better than my nephew’s little-league team, there’s no reason to expect the poll to do anything other than slide down.

Agree that the 1’s and 2’s are ridiculous…….we’re solidly 5-6, possibly 7 IMHO. I just give the non-ML portions (i.e., everything that doesn’t actually swing a bat) a 5-6 on general principle, and then the team itself gets whatever points above that.

by skymuse on Apr 29, 2010 12:43 PM EDT reply actions

I still think, the poll should start at 5.

Anyone not voting a 5 or more, can hardly call themselves a Braves supporter at all.

In my opinion of course .
