Atlanta Braves Fan Confidence Poll

Every other Friday this off-season Talking Chop presents the Atlanta Braves fan confidence poll. This poll and therefore your confidence level should encompasses several areas of the team. These areas include, but are not limited to, the team’s ownership, current management, talent, minor-league system, general playing ability on the field, and of course during the off-season, how our off-season is going. The poll will stay open for 48 hours, and then the results will be posted and graphed against the previous weeks.

I think I’ll bump up my confidence vote. I like the Hinske signing and it looks like they’re trying to hold onto some cash to extend some of the younger core.

I sure

hope so but reality says that the extra cash will be tucked away for a midseason move if needed to make a playoff push.

I’m up to 8 based the Hinske signing, the other moves divesifying the roster, and the apparent effort to maintain financial reserves and maximum flexibility for future opportunities.

I believe (knock on wood) the Braves are poised for a championship run.

Up from my usual 8.

Wren not only improved this year’s team but he improved the talent level if the entire system with some cash left over.

by bbxxj on Jan 8, 2010 8:44 AM EST via mobile reply actions

I raised mine to 8 as well, partly because of Hinske and Glaus, partly because of the improved financial position, and partly because of the negative votes that are sure to come…

I think Eric Hinske has figured out how to get to the World Series, and Troy Glaus knows how to win a World Series MVP so. I think we’re good.

But in reality, I love the depth on our bench; love our pitching staff; love the farm system; like the offense.. I do think that Johnny Damon would have made us more of a threat, but then again having the financial flexibility is nice also. Imagine if Heyward can live up to his hype right away like Hanson did.. we’d be set.

by BigG1392 on Jan 8, 2010 10:20 AM EST reply actions

We could still get Damon...

If the price drops enough. He is bitter with the Yankees and no other contender will probably offer much. So for $5 mil we might sign him and hopefully we get this year Abreu.

by jvvenez on Jan 8, 2010 4:04 PM EST up reply actions

Unless Heyward AND Schafer were spending all year in AAA...

or a trade was already in the works, why? We have no room for Damon. Maybe a potential leadoff hitting 2B, otherwise it’s minimum salary split minor/major contract types only.

I agree, we’d have to move Melky for that to happen. And I’m thinking this is the roster we’ll head into ST with so, I doubt it will happen. I hope I’m wrong though. Damon > Melky by far.

by BigG1392 on Jan 8, 2010 6:46 PM EST up reply actions

I think Damon was wanting a 2 yr deal which I believe has taken him out of any consideration of being signed by the Braves.

by adc62 on Jan 9, 2010 2:11 PM EST up reply actions

But Melky isn't starting...

…and Damon isn’t going to sign to be a fourth OF. I don’t see how signing Damon makes sense unless we don’t trust Diaz or plan to keep the kids on the farm most of the year.

My highest ranking yet. I see the moves this off season as opening the doors at the right time for our prospects as they get major league ready. We look competitive for 2010 and restocked for 2011 and beyond, with cash for extensions as well. Heyward and Glaus will be very helpful, though Heyward will probably take a couple of years to reach his full potential. Schafer has a spot with Diaz free agency or tradeing McLouth or Cabrera, Freeman with Cabrera’s 1 year deal, Kimbrel with Wagner’s 1 year, Saito will open a door in 2011, and KK, Lowe and Hudson will move on in 2 to 3 years opening spots for starters in A or AA now. Chipper’s $13 mil buys his replacement and more. We look staffed and flush with cash in 2011, 2012 and 2013.

Wron on Freeman

should have been Glaus 1 year deal.

I really like all the offseason moves and I would have voted higher, but health seems to be a huge question mark for this team. We’ve collected some great names on paper, but will Wagner, Saito, Glaus & Chipper stay healthy and produce like they are capable of?

I’m not trying to be a downer, but 7 is still good.

The only reason I didn’t vote 8 is b/c there is still the lack of a power bat in the OF. But I love the addition of Hinske and the available cash for a mid season move if needed.

Definitely a 7.

Voted 8 for the first time,

I like the team FW has put together this off season. I am So ready for the season to begin!

Along with everyone else, I bumped up a notch this week too…up from an 8 to a 9
