The Braves' Resop Rewind
Per the latest Mark Bowman blog:
Chris Resop spent the past season and a half pitching in Japan and now he's ready to once again compete for a spot in the Braves bullpen. He has signed a Minor League contract and received an invitation to Spring Training.
The 27-year-old right-hander, who made 16 appearances with the 2008 Braves, is excited about his arm strength and the sink that he's recently gained with his two-seam fastball.
Cox came out of spring training in '98 all, "this dude can throw 98 mph," but it turns out 98 with no movement won't cut it in the bigs. He had some promise, and I like the minor league deal. If nothing else he's good organizational depth.
Bowman also talks about Chuck James, Greg Maddux, Chipper Jones, and that whole Mark McGwire thing.

oh shit
i was thinking for a minute that Chris Resop was Chris Reitsma. i would’ve killed myself.
Remember folks, I'm almost always wrong.

Although Reistma’s Pizzas would have been a great section to be in

What's the difference?
Both were blue-eyed white guy RHPs who threw bullets straighter than arrows, and couldn’t hit the strike-zone to save their lives. There’s a reason why in years past, he/they were referred to as “Reitsop”

That bit about Chuck James is kind of a bummer.

Forgot about him. So he’s basically a crappier Tyler Yates?
Here are Pujols's stats: 1.000/1.000/4.000/5.000. That's right. He is batting a thousand, with a thousand OBP (naturally), and every hit has been a home run, and thus his OPS is a perfect 5.000.

Resop again _ James thing stinks
Boy oh boy, typical so typical of the Braves and Cox; somethings never change even with time. Man Chuck James was great young talent for us and had a wonderful full first season but pitching with a bum shoulder is impossible. It really is a shame that we didn’t keep him on in the Minors and allow him to heal, b/c their is no way if he is healthy that he is ever going to sign with us again which also stinks b/c can you imagine Chuck James and Medlen as our long relievers and spot starters, man how sweet would that be provided that James is truly healthy again.
Go Bravos.

Umm...
Why pay a guy who can’t play at all?

I really wanted Chuck James to sit down and talk to Tom Glavine for a couple of hours. He was one of my favorite guys to pull for.

Resop. Son of a whore. The fools should have held onto Campillo.

Why didn’t we keep Campillo again? His numbers were just fine in my view and his stuff looked even more impressive. Hate to say it, but Holtzie keeps that guy.

No matter how many outs he got
A lot of people didn’t like the fact that he didn’t throw anything above 88mph. Unless your name was Tom Glavine or Jamie Moyer, few cared about a “crafty” pitcher, especially a right-handed one.

Chris Resop
The guy who pitched, moved to left field, and then came back in to pitch? I think it was him.
by Bronn on Jan 13, 2010 10:36 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Oh yeah
Had it actually worked, that would have been a defining moment of Bobby’s genius, because Ring got LaRoche to strike out, but then Resop got drilled by Xavier Nady immediately after being put back in to pitch.

I wanted to see Resop make a play in LF
I bet he could throw a laser from the wall to the plate.
