Game 157 Recap: Marlins 5, Braves 4
Hey, if over the last 18 games I told you this was only our third loss, you would probably be ecstatic. But this Braves team is at a point in their season where every game is the most important game, and should be won, without question. We did the job of scoring runs, but out vaunted pitching did not live up to the pressure. Not the starter Tim Hudson, and not his replacement Kenshin Kawakami (who was only given one inning).
There was a nice homerun from Matt Diaz, which was apparently "the only hit the Braves have registered in 17 at-bats with runners in scoring position during this series" -- that's not good. These Marlins will do this to us. Yes, there were many run-scoring opportunities, but none of them came to fruition.
Bad night for the Braves, perhaps bad enough to be... un"believe"able!!!

this crap is killing me
So im sitting, playing my XBox 360, trying to think about anything besides the Braves. I accidentally hit a button on my remote and it changes the screen to ESPN; and, by what freakin miracle, I glance at the bottom line and it says: Brewers tie it up in 9th.
I just wanna either make the playoffs or be eliminated. I cant do this. I’ve never been tired from a sporting event, but that’s not ture anymore.

Fielder’s 1 on and 1 out, 1 pitch hit into a DP had me screaming at the computer.
I can’t believe how emotional this is for me. LOL
him and Prado must be buddies

IF the Brewers come back and win
I still think, by some miracle, we still have a shot.
If they win, I really doubt it. Even if we go 5-0, the rockies would have to go 2-3 to force a playoff. Could it happen? Sure. Likely? Nope.
But shit, who knows anymore. 3 1/2 weeks ago, I never thought the Braves would finish any better than 8 games behind the WC winner.

Yes it is...
We’ve gotten plenty of them.

Diaz's homer to tie the game?

I've read it. And?

Are you saying it wasn't a "big hit"?

Yes, it was a big hit
but 1 for our last 17 w/ RISP? Like I said, we haven’t had many big hits recently and it must be nice to have multiple big hits (like the Rockies did tonight).

3 up with 5 to play
So if we go undefeated the Rockies have to go 2-3.
Well…night night.

I will agree...
with the first sentence of the recap. I would be ecstatic. I am ecstatic. No “but” anything.
If you “believed” before tonight’s game, but you don’t “believe” now, then you probably didn’t really “believe” in the first place.

HERE HERE!!!!
People will come Ray. The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again.
nate mcclouth: 5 -45 dating back to the Phillies series. TERRIBLE! He is a great defender but wow does he suck hitting the ball. He it not a great lead off hitter. He is speedy like a leadoff hitter but his hacks are not of a leadoff hitter. It looks as if he is trying to hit bombs when he swings. Why does he never try to bunt his way on? He has the speed to make it. And i personally thought his attempt to steal second after we had tied the game was a HUGE rally killer (one of many tonight). But he should have given the guys behind him the opportunity to swing the bat while the had the momentum in our favor. Him getting caught stealing, IMO, took away some of the momentum.
It'll be interesting to see what happens in our OF
If Schafer’s wrist is healthy, he’ll man CF and McLouth will move to LF. Only problem is (assuming Heyward is in RF) where is
MattyD gonna play?

There’s always the one player we can never get out. I swear it seems like he’s hit nothing but doubles this series. I wish we would find a way to get him out or if not give him just 1 base.
-
Gonna take a miracle (we all kinda knew that already) – but it can still happen.
If we don’t find a way to hit with RISP better than these past 2 games against pitchers who did not have their best stuff, we won’t go far.
The Rockies and Braves are both machines, but it’s looking like the Rockies are the Honda, and the Bravos are the Hyundai.
ugh. hanging by a freaking thread.

who ever in the best of times this season thought we's sweek the Marlins away?
2 of 3 would be the best
He whose words outnumber his deeds, know that his death is better than his life.
However this season ends its been quite a ride from the low point (swept by the Reds) to the high point just last game. I’m proud of the guys for never giving up and happy that Wren has put together a competitive team (I wouldn’t say complete, but definitely competitive). There’s still games left to go, but with 3 games out we’re gonna need some major help from the Rockies and the Dodgers/Brew Crew. Nevertheless, I wanna give a big thanks to the team for making this last week interesting, to say the least.
Go Braves!
This is my fault
I got my internet access back last night (haven’t had it since I moved) and finally got to watch a game. Since I haven’t been able to watch, the Braves have been winning, but apparently since I watched they lost. FML…

I think it’s the white jerseys. Playing in them always seems to cut us down to size.
Wear the blues and greys for the remainder of the season!!! Screw it!!!

Braves, you guys are still alive
its just you are in a coma and on life support. But who knows! Miracles do happen! Win or lose, I’m gonna be at the ball park on Friday to show my thanks for the great season. Go get em (if not the year) than next for Bobby!!!!!!
Just watched the Diaz HR again……what a waste.

yeah....
I wish he hadn’t hit it, because, you know, the pleasure of it, in and of itself, is not something to be enjoyed, even savored.

I am so bummed
that we couldn’t pull it out last night. Really. I hate those stinky Fish. But I have to keep reminding myself that when this season is over (whether or not it ends Sunday), we will have become a team that is 20 games better than last year. I think that is a huge accomplishment, given our rollercoaster ride of a season. 90 wins? Come on, that’s pretty awesome!

Even if they don't make the playoffs...
I’m still happy with the improvement from last year.
But I refuse to think we’re out of it yet. It’s not unreasonable to think that the Braves win the rest of their games, and then the Rockies win 2 of 3 from the Brewers and lose 2 of 3 to the Dodgers and force a one-game playoff.
You say to-mah-to, I say you're retarded.

Tough loss but I join the small-ish chorus of yay-sayers for the Braves this year. A greatly improved team that should be a force next year. And hey, we still have a mustard seed of hope for the wild card.
Now the business about no one being at the ballpark: sad. Atlanta must have a lot of exciting entertainment oppurtunities because the attendance right now is embarrassing. Chipper even mentioned in the post game show the other day that he wished more fans would come to the park. You could tell he was disappointed.
