Around SBN: Kentucky Football: Tee Martin Reportedly Leaving for USC

The 18 year old, who was 17 while he played for the Orlando Braves, also helped Danville win their league championship. In 32 GCL games he hit .284 with 2 HR, 19 RBI and a .775 OPS. He was the Braves' top international signing out of Panama last year.
The only other Brave on the list was 20 year old pitcher Caleb Brewer at number 17. The righty pitched 12 games (10 starts) with a 3-3 record and a 2.82 ERA. He was selected in the 14th round of the 2007 draft.

Pretty exciting stuff

I knew Bethancourt was a big deal, but this still comes as a small surprise I guess. I also would have thought we’d see Robinson Lopez before Caleb Brewer. But BA must be pretty impressed by Brewer; he led the league in Ks with 66 in 45.2 IP. I know that he threw pretty hard when we drafted him out of HS in 2007.

It’s impressive because we seem to be getting more and more low level talent. Last year we only had one guy in the top 20 for the GCL and that was Spruill at #17.

Q: If on-base pct is so important then why don't they put it on the scoreboard? -Failcoeur

A: Because the Braves don't want to show their fans how bad you suck.

brewer

Wow good for Caleb, I played on a summer team with him a few yrs ago when I was a senior and he was a junior. He has great upside if he can just get that strikezone under control. He has major league arm strength. Congrats caleb

where will he start next season?

Rome? or will he stay in the development leagues another year?

I’d be pretty surprised if Bethancourt wasn’t in Rome.

I would be too

But you never know with guys as young as 18. There’s absolutely NO reason to rush him tho.

the difference is of the guys u mentioend how many have impact player upside… I wuold say none…. I don’t know a lot about those guys… what i do know is that none of them can hit like Betancourt and all of them are older. THe question with Betancourt will be defense… I have not heard a lot about him defensively and maybe thats a good thing… but we’ll have to see if he good enough defensively, before he has any real value. That said He is 18 and is a stud

Heyward,Hanson, and Shaffer r ready now!! Why do you think they havent signed the "right handed bat"?

the comment about others...

was to support the “no need to rush him”. Rome sounds fine, and that’s probably where he starts but if the FO wants to wait, then so be it.

RE:

Matra and Kennelly are two hig upside players. Matra would’ve been a sure 1st rd pk but got injured his junior season and Kennelly was one of the top catching IFA in 2005.

Everything I’ve heard about Bethancourt suggests that he profiles as someone who will stick behind the plate, and be good at it.

thank you for that… same goes to ESADB…. i maintain that Sucre, Kennelly and Schlehueber wont really turn into much and don;t have that bright of a future… none of them has hit this year.

Matra posted a robust 400 OPS this year in Danville at age 20 (which is about par for the course in terms of age…meanign his production sucks)

Sucre posted a pretty solid OPS in Rome, but was buoyed by a 358 BABIP (although his numbers are good enough to warrant prospect status considering his age.

Kennelly and Schlehueber are in the same boat as Sucre. for the most part

overall the only ones of thee 4 to post a 700+ OPS is Sucre this year in low A (and like i mentioned it was buoyed by a high BABIP) and Matra in his second year of GCL.

nothing here is anything to get excited about IMHO… maybe Sucre or Matra if u want to get into the projection and age. But neither have any substantial results to go off of. That said Betancourt doesnt have great results to go off either, but they are better than both these two. And he is younger, so Ill take that over eveything else. Kennelly and Schlehueber both have sucked it up pretty hardcore…so theres no case for them being prospects (of course they could turn it around next year, but im gonna go off past results, before i make grand predictions)

I’m still a big believer in Kennelly. He won’t be as good as Bethancourt, but he’s better than the rest. He’ll still be only 21 next year and is developing nicely. He’s going to be something like a Brad Ausmus type, great defense with enough offense to get by.

well since u’ve seen him play more than I, I’ll trust ur opinion on his defense but his offense is still suspect to me…although it is developing so we’ll see i guess.
