Poor Little Blaine
As if he hasn't had a frustrating season already, Blaine Boyer's mental wildness has claimed another victim:
He apparently hit the umpire in the head with a high warm up pitch and knocked him unconscious. These were Boyer's comments after the game:
"I told Jason I was throwing a cutter, but it never cut. It just went straight," Boyer said. "And man, he wore that right on his forehead..."
No it did not cut, Blaine, but it did bruise. Boyer did settle down to throw a scorless inning, striking out one. For the full video of this calamity, go here. (Hat tip: When Sid Slid)

A perfect inning indeed
2 GB, 1 SO. 11 pitches, 9 for strikes. 4 of them foul balls, 4 of them looking (guessing three were 1st pitch), and 1 swinging. Dave Duncan, FTW
No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.
It was against the Natinals.
The two outings before this…
1.2 IP, 4 H, 1 K, 0 BB, 2 ER, and more in line to what we’re used to seeing…without the walks, of course.
These two outings were thrown against the Cubs, who should hit, but haven’t so far.
As much as I liked Boyer’s stuff and think someone like Dave Duncan is perfect for him, I’m not too concerned. The sample size just keeps getting bigger, his minor league numbers were never great, and he’ll be 28 later this year. Maybe he figures it out, but I’m not holding my breath.
I wouldn’t worry about losing a middle reliever with a career ERA of 5.49, but that’s just me. Good organizations should be able to promote one or two homegrown guys a year that put up that ERA.
HA
Who was the ump?
