Braves not in the mix for Aroldis Chapman
Just as fast as SI.com could spread the rumor, the Atlanta Braves General Manager Frank Wren has squashed the rumor that the Braves were planning to meet with Cuban defector Aroldis Chapman.
The SI.com story referenced two unnamed sources who said that the Braves were planning to meet with Chapman, but Mark Bowman, Braves.com beat writer, sought clarification from Wren who said, "We don't have any plans to meet with him at this time." Should we read into that? While the Braves don't currently have any planned meetings set up at this time, perhaps they are planning to setup a meeting with him. Yep, I'm reading way too much into that.

I doubt it.
High profile, big-money, and “non-drafted” aren’t the Braves style.
"... at this time"
this is a complete dodge by Wren.
at this time, 10:15 AM, I have no plans to eat lunch today.
but by sometime around 1:00 PM, I will definitely be getting hungry and there is a high probability that I will eat lunch today.
It may be a slight dodge. I think Wren is just trying to take the legs out off of this story because even if they meet with Chapman, they won’t be able to offer anything close to what other teams will offer. It makes sense to meet and try to play up our Cuban connections but we obviously don’t need to give our hopes up which is why Wren doesn’t want this to be a story.
Well that was a quick turnaround.
We all know that last year was a catastrophe in terms of talk and a lot of stuff went sour in terms of signing guys.
I expect Wren to be cautious. Will I read too much into it? Nope. I expect this offseason to be pretty quiet.
And it happened with Hudson too...
this front office seems quick to put out corrections to bad rosterbaters in the media.
Seems a little more realistic
We’re already trying to move some costs from our rotation, it just doesn’t make sense with a rotation of this age, depth, and ability to spend at least 40 mil that could go towards a bat.

Agreed. Didn't make much sense.
If he was a power hitting 1st basemen or maybe an outfielder It would have been believable.
