Two Major League sources have confirmed that Mike Gonzalez has chosen Scott Boras to now serve as his agent. The left-handed reliever had previously been represented by Dan Lozano of the Beverly Hills Sports Council.

Mike Gonzalez signs with Scott Boras
Frank Wren and agent Scott Boras are on better terms than Boras and John Schuerholz were, so the relationship should no longer be a hurdle, but the $$$ that Gonzo will now cost might be. I wonder if this will affect whether or not the Braves will offer him arbitration.

Bowman said he didn’t think that it would affect our pursuit of Gonzo

But it means we can offer him arbitration now...

…without any kind of fear that he’ll accept and make things difficult. And while I don’t think it’ll affect our “persuit” of him, it probably will affect our ability to sign him again since Boras is already comparing him to a “Mariano Rivera crossed with Billy Wagner” or some such.

whats funny

is i dont recall Wagner really declining.

less risk in offering arb to gonzo...

means less rick in offering it to soriano too (since the big fear was both accepting).

We should offer him arbitration on Dec. 1st because he’s almost certain to decline it.

This actually made me laugh out loud.

I wrote a novel, it's about baseball, you should buy it: https://www.createspace.com/3407939

Agree!

I don’t think we can afford to offer arbitration because Boras is very likely to try to use us to raise the price for his closer. Boras maybe great for his players but I think he is bad for baseball. He plays with Monopoly money amounts while us fans have to pay out the “gazoo” just to buy a ticket to a ballgame!

Bye Gonzo.

Wonder where he signs.

Who cares

As long ATL offers arb.

If Albert played in the AFL, they’d have to rename it the AZ/NM Fall League, based on where his homers landed.

Further reason

to resign Soriano.

All the more reason to offer arbitration. Cause Boras won’t accept it.

No way Gonzo comes back now. Braves will definitely offer arb now but I’m sure Boras will want more $$ and years than Wren is willing to offer.

by beeswax on Nov 17, 2009 7:21 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Boras will want more $ and years and he will get it. Say what you want about him, but he does a heck of a job getting enormous contracts for his clients.

Once again it is all about the $

So Gonzo is with Bora well that mean ATL can say goodbye to him b/c their is no way I would give him the type of money or years that Boras will want. I can already here the Boras ranting can’t you all.

“Oh he is the most complete reliever on the market, period”

Gonzo see ya.

Plus

Gonzo is no longer our closer anyway and peter moylan can step up games just as well as gonzo could. Gonzo is nothing more than a setup man now anyway and he is not a closer and shouldn’t be viewed as one on the open market.

Have fun playing for the Nats gonzo. I sure the are going to shell out the big money. LOL

Gonzo is indeed every bit of a closer.

As much as I think closers are overrated, Gonzo is a damn good one.
