Glavine Set to Return
Tom Glavine had a decent second rehab start at double-A Mississippi last night, and is now scheduled to return to the Atlanta Braves starting rotation next Thursday against the Chicago Cubs. A lot of fans came out to watch Glavine. The sold-out crowd of 6,775 at Trustmark Park was the sixth-largest crowd in that park's history. Here is how Glavine gave up three runs in five innings:
Jacksonville touched up Tom Glavine for a run in the top of the first inning. After Ivan DeJesus reached on a fielder’s choice, Russell Mitchell ripped a double to left-center scoring DeJesus from first to give the Suns a 1-0 lead. They added a second run in the second frame. Lucas May led off with a walk and moved to third on an error by Kala Ka’aihue. He then scored on a sac-fly by Adam Godwin to put the Suns up 2-0.
Jacksonville plated another run off of Glavine in the third. Jamie Hoffman got a one-out single, stole second and scored on a bloop single to right that was just out of the reach of Ka’aihue. After two-and-a-half innings, the Suns led 3-0.
Here is a recap to the injury he is coming back from:
He was diagnosed with a partially torn flexor tendon, and doctors didn't know if the injury would require surgery. After a long period without progress, his condition improved rapidly in recent weeks.
It will be nice to see Glavine get back in there and prove to everyone and prove to himself that he can pitch again. He has said recently that he wants to get back in there and see if he can still pitch effectively. That will help him determine if he wants to try and pitch next year.

Thanks for the update. Kinda sounds like good old Tommy, except he usually stops the “bleeding” after the second! Now don’t start slamming me with stats, ‘cause that’s not my gig – you guys are better at that than I am, and I’m perfectly fine with that…I’m just glad to hear good news about Glav.

I wonder if he would be interested in coming back next year…on one hand, he knows its probably going to be a long, tough season with Huddy being out. But on that same note, its also an opportunity to teach Reyes, Morton, et al.

why?
let the young guys get some valuable starts. There’s no need for this guy anymore.

But who?
Chuck James? I don’t think any more major league starts are going to show any more about him than what we already know. He’s not really anything more than a AAA pitcher who’s capable of making spot starts. Reyes was sent down to AAA for a reason, to get his stuff under control.
This is the perfect time to let Glavine pitch to see if he’s got anything left in the tank for next year.
