Who will be the Next Braves Player to get Traded?

We have officially concluded Teixeirapalooza, and now we get to hear all the beat writers and announcers trot out the phrase "Casey at the bat" nine million times. By the way, that phrase is henceforth officially banned from this website.
From MLB.com, here's a look at the market for our next most likely to depart player, Will Ohman:
The Braves have had conversations with several teams, including the Marlins, Red Sox, Rays, Tigers and White Sox, regarding reliever Will Ohman. But the Braves aren't highly motivated to move the 30-year-old Ohman, who is making $1.6 million this season. He is also having the best season of his career, and is viewed as a late-inning left-handed option for the club in 2009.
Ohman can be obtained, but the Braves will get their price or else keep him.
I find it interesting that the Braves seem to be playing a tougher game of "the price is right" with Ohman than they did with Teixeira. Of course, with the way our lefty relievers have performed in years past, it's no wonder that the team wants to hold onto a good one. On the other hand, he could price himself out of the Braves plans much like Ron Mahay did last year. Keep in mind the team is already spending much more than it usually does on relievers with the salaries next year of Mike Gonzalez and Rafael Soriano; how much more are they willing to spend on a lefty setup guy?
Add the Phillies to the teams possibly interested in Ohman, since they've had lengthy discussions with the Royals about Mahay, but have not come to an agreement. They may begin to look elsewhere.
We may also see some non-contender deals. In this trade news wrap-up at Fox Sports, Ken Rosenthal says that the Orioles may be interested in Brent Lillibridge. Remember too that even though the proposed deal that would have sent Jason Bay to the Braves for four players was reported to be killed by Pirates ownership, and was then reported to have never been offered, could be rekindled (or "kindled," if in fact it was never offered in the first place). The modus operandi for trades between the Braves and Pirates seems to be that they take a long time to develop, so even if nothing happens in the next day, and even though some may no long consider us in the running for Bay, talks could still be ongoing and an off-season deal may be likely.

I had a fanpost up on this very idea, but I just killed it in the interest of keeping things all in one place.
mlbtraderumors has talk of a possible Rays/Pirates swap with Bay involved. The same post also says talks with Atlanta for Bay are dead. Not good – I was really hoping he could be the RH power bat/LF black hole-filler we need so desperately.
Re: Lilli and the O’s – what desirable piece could we pry loose from them? I’m thinking a SP prospect; anyone with knowledge of their system have any ideas?

The Orioles have been desperate for a shortstop and if they think Lillibridge could be the answer we might be able to get something worthwhile for him. The O’s have some interesting starting pitching prospects. Probably wouldn’t be able to get some of the top tier guys we’d like, such as Chris Tillman, Jake Arrieta, or Tony Butler, but a deal for one, or maybe even two of the second level guys, like Chorye Spoone, Jason Berken, or Bradley Bergesen, who are all very interesting prospects at AA, could work. A straight up Lillibridge for Radhames Liz, who seems to have fallen out of favor, might work. I think they should expand the trade and try to pick up two guys, the second one being Hayden Penn, who’s had a series of injuries and underperformance the last few years, but has been dynamite in his last few starts and really seems to be returning to form; he’d be a cheap throw in.

add
Branond Erbe to the list. I wouldn’t mind a Liz and Erbe swap for Lilli.

I was looking at guys a little closer to the bigs, but I really like Erbe. I don’t think we could go straight up Erbe and Liz for Lilli, but if we added a DH type bat we can’t really use, like Greg Creek, and maybe a mystery pitcher, like Carlos Sencion, that could be an interesting trade.

how about
Lilli, Cody Johnson, and Bueno for Liz, Erbe, and Billy Rowell.
by BlueVol03 on Jul 30, 2008 2:50 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Lilli and Cody Johnson for Erbe and Liz seems like something that could actually happen, but I don’t see the Orioles letting Billy Rowell get away for any reason. After Wieters, he’s probably their next best prospect. He’s only 20 and is very comparable to Chipper Jones.

If I remember right, we had interest in Penn back when there was a Giles and LaRoche for Penn and Brian Roberts swap rumored. Again, if memory serves, Angelos is the one who killed that deal because of his mancrush on Roberts.

I was holding out hope that we would get Bay. Not that it would mean anything for this year, but for next year, I think he would be a great addition.
And, with all the bullpen problems we’ve had in the past, and this year in particular, DON’T trade Ohman or Gonzo! They are the best we have! Keep them and build!

Doubt we are able to sign him for next year wish we would but would cost alot to an already expensive back end of pen for us. I just think we could let him walk for a pick if he doesn’t sign but if we could get him for a b level prospect that would be fine by me.

I'm in the 'trade Ohman' boat as well.
He’s been great for us this year and I’ll be sad to see him go, but if we can get a quality starting pitching prospect back for him I’d pull the trigger in a heartbeat.
Also, if we can get one of the good Orioles pitching prospects for Lillibridge, I’d say do it. I have zero idea what his trade value would be, though.

Yall are probably right
But I hate the thought that we are not keeping good player just because of money. I guess I should be used to it by now though.

I don't think we'll..
..be able to get a good prospect for Ohman. If you haven’t noticed, GM’s are wising up..and coveting prospects more than ever. It’s going to be very hard to pry away a top level prospect for anyone, including Ohman. More and more teams are protecting their prospects and valuing them more than they have in recent years.

Yeah.
Like I said in some other thread, a good idea where to begin is the Kyle Davies – Octavio Dotel trade; not a top prospect by any stretch, but an interesting one nevertheless. I think we can get a little more value than Davies, but that’s about all I expect.

Ken Rosenthal via mlbtraderumors is now reporting that we took Kotchman/Marek over Tracy/Owings from ARI.
Personally, I like Owings, but I like Kotch over Tracy (upside), so I think Wren made the smart decision there. I know nothing on Marek other than what has been written here, but I lean toward trusting our scouts.
by VegasAces on Jul 30, 2008 11:20 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Good
I am not really impressed with Tracy, and Owings is known more for his bat than pitching. He’s gota a high ERA but lots of strikeouts. I think he’s a #3 starter at best. Of course, the now ace of our staff was projected to be a #5 starter, if anything, this year. Mabye Owings wouldn’t have been all bad. He could be used as a pinch hitter for Francoeur.
by skipcaray on Jul 30, 2008 11:43 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Maybe...
we could have put Owings in the outfield on his off days….
by sddbaker on Jul 30, 2008 12:42 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Hmmm…maybe we could have put Owings in RF, and converted Francoeur to a pitcher…he’s got a great arm, and we wouldn’t have had to see him hit as much…
by skipcaray on Jul 30, 2008 12:52 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Yeah I think those deals are pretty close in value but I’d take the Kotchman deal simply because of his upside and the length of time we control him. Also Marek could help us in the bullpen next year. And also we already have three or four guys on about an even talent level with Owings. What we need is a front of the rotation guy.

Buster Olney
just ripped the Braves 2007 trade for Tex and called it a bust.
I can’t disagree with him.
by NEBravesFan33 on Jul 30, 2008 12:15 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Well duh, Buster...
But the problem is that we didn’t turn Tex’s production into any value because of lack of performance from other guys and a terrible slew of injuries. So when all the value of a year’s worth of production goes out the window, you’re going to ‘lose’ a trade. But at the 2007 deadline, I still pull the trigger on that trade 100% of the time.

I bet Joe Morgan doesn’t like it either.
If he even knows that the Braves are in Atlanta.

Lillibridge
I bet we’d be able to pry Matt Weiters from the Orioles for Lillibridge.

Give me Mulder. That way, we can trade for Zito and Maddux, thus having a rotation of Maddux, Glavine, Smoltz, Hudson, Mulder, and Zito. Gold.

Maybe we could trade for Manny??
Of course, we would have to absorb his salary, plus the cost of security guards for the team officials.

more realistic return for ohman
Sox talking to Braves about reliever
Posted by Gordon Edes, Globe Staff July 30, 2008 03:39 PM
The Red Sox today are talking to the Braves about reliever Will Ohman, who has a 2.84 ERA, 13 holds, and 41 strikeouts (with 18 walks) in 44 1/3 innings pitched this season.
Besides the Red Sox, five other teams are discussing Ohman with the Braves, who are looking for a pitching prospect in return. A logical name that might surface in trade talks with Atlanta from the Red Sox farm system is Double-A pitcher Daniel Bard, who is 2-1 with a 2.63 ERA in 37 2/3 innings pitched for the Sea Dogs this season.

Who else are they naming in the trade? So we would possibly get just one AA pitcher for Ohman?
