Could Yankees get into the Teixeira Mix?

Richie Sexson has been predictably mediocre (if not bad) since signing with the Yankees in their effort to add to their offense, and now the official word is that Jorge Posada will have season ending shoulder surgery. The Yanks, in a three-way scrum with the Red Sox and Devil Rays for two playoff spots, may want to put some more pop in their lineup and fill the newly opened hole at DH/1B -- even after recently adding Xavier Nady to their lineup.

The Yankees may also want the opportunity to negotiate exclusively with Mark Teixeira during the early days of the off-season in an effort to keep the first baseman away from the Mets and Red Sox. Beat writer Mark Bowman also thinks that the Yankees could be a possible destination.

The issue with the Yankees could be the quality of prospects that are close to the majors who could be exchanged in any trade. At this point I would consider the Yankees a longshot, but if nothing else, putting them in the mix may drive up the price on the other interested parties.

MLBTR says the Braves have deals on the table right now for Tex. Could we see him dealt as soon as tomorrow?

Hopefully it's worth it

The two draft picks sound pretty good to me, the Braves have been pretty good in the draft. I just don’t want the Braves to trade Tex for more mediocre players.

I don't think so

based on the way the article read it sounds like Wren is going to take this thing down to the wire to see if teams will improve their offers.

the thing is, if a team like baltimore grabs tex…we don’t get that first round pick, we’ll get a second instead. and thats a pretty big kick in the balls

I agree pj16

they have NOTHIN that I want except Hughes. I dont wont Kennedy. And I doubt that the Yankees would trade Hughes and thats fine with me.

Bigjoe, but we would get a supplemental pick and second round pick. No way we settle for Tracy and average prospects. That is just not worth it in my opinion.

depends

if we have the top 15 worst record in baseball. Which it looks like we will be one of the 15 worst teams in baseball. If we finish bottom 15 in the league then we can sign any Type A free agent and all we have to give up is a second round pick.
