McCann’s hit with the bases loaded was his second walk-off of the year.

One run was all it took on Friday night as Brian McCann and the Braves beat the Marlins 1-0. It was Atlanta’s eighth straight win over their divisional foes and ninth in 10 tries.

With the score still 0-0 in the bottom of the 9th, Freddie Freeman greeted José Quijada with a first-pitch double to the left-center gap. The Marlins would intentionally walk Josh Donaldson to face Nick Markakis, who tapped a ball weakly back to the mound but managed to advance Donaldson and Freeman to second and third. Another intentional walk to Austin Riley loaded the bases for McCann in a lefty-lefty matchup with Quijada. McCann didn't wait long, lining a first pitch fastball into left field for the win.

Luke Jackson worked the top of the ninth and surrendered a leadoff double, but unlike the Braves, the Marlins were unable to capitalize on it as Jackson struck out the next two batters before getting Brian Anderson to line out to Austin Riley on the warning track.

Before the rain, it was a pitcher’s duel throughout the night as Julio Teheran went toe-to-toe with impressive rookie Jordan Yamamoto.

Teheran tossed six scoreless frames, continuing to work around traffic jams throughout as he has done so frequently in 2019. He ended the night throwing 103 pitches (66 strikes) and surrendered five hits and two walks while striking out six.

Yamamoto was as-advertised, working all of his pitches to all parts of the zone and keeping the Braves’ hitters off balance throughout the night. McCann broke up a no-hit bid in the fifth. The only rally the Braves would mount against Yamamoto was in the sixth as Matt Joyce walked and Ronald Acuña Jr. singled to lead off the frame, but a double play and comebacker to the mound ended the threat.

A scoreless seventh inning passed before the rain came for nearly 2.5 hours.

The series will continue on Saturday afternoon as Max Fried takes the mound against Caleb Smith, who will be making his first start in exactly one month due to injury. First pitch is set for 4:10 p.m. ET.

Braves look to make it three straight wins Friday night against the Marlins.

Julio Teheran will look to bounce back from a couple of rough outings Friday night when he takes the mound against the Miami Marlins. After an outstanding stretch, Teheran has struggled of late allowing 15 earned runs in his last three starts. Miami will counter with right-hander Jordan Yamamoto who will be making his first career start against Atlanta.

First pitch is scheduled for 7:20 p.m. ET and can be seen on Fox Sports South.

The Braves’ shortstop is dealing with some soreness so he will miss a couple of games.

If you watched the Braves’ game last night, it is likely you would not have thought a thing was wrong with Dansby Swanson as he had a big night at the plate including a pair of home runs as the Braves routed the Phillies 12-6.

However, as it turns out, Dansby was feeling some soreness in his quadriceps. While Dansby wanted to stay in the lineup and play through it, the Braves took the cautious (and likely smartest) path and gave him a couple of games off.

With guys like Johan Camargo and Charlie Culberson on the roster, this was an easy decision especially with the All-Star break coming up. While the injury does not appear to be serious, being proactive when there are capable replacements on the roster is a great use of the team’s bench depth and versatility to help insure that Dansby is fully healthy for the second half of the season.

Swanson has been resurgent at the plate during the 2019 season, particularly in regards to his power, while posting a .274/.334/.500 line with 17 home runs in 88 games.

Camargo will start at shortstop in place of Dansby Swanson who has not missed a game this season.

The Atlanta Braves will try to make it three straight wins on Friday when they open up a three game series against the Miami Marlins. The Braves have taken eight of the nine meetings between the two clubs this season.

Dansby Swanson is red hot for the Braves and has appeared in every game this season but is not in the starting lineup for Friday’s series opener. Ozzie Albies moves up into the No. 2 spot in the order while Johan Camargo gets the start at shortstop.

Gausman’s road back begins tonight in Florida.

The Atlanta Braves have announced that injured right-handed pitcher Kevin Gausman will begin a rehab assignment with the Florida Fire Frogs on Friday. Gausman last pitched back on June 10 in Pittsburgh before going on the injured list due to plantar fasciitis in his right foot.

Gausman has had a strange season in that he was slowed early on in the spring by a sore shoulder. He pitched well early on before the wheels fell completely off in June. He allowed 17 earned runs over his last 8 1/3 innings combined in his last three starts. As ineffective as his 6.21 ERA looks, his 4.17 FIP suggests that he has been a bit unlucky as well.

As we discussed with Ender Inciarte earlier this week, there isn’t a clear cut path to a return for Gausman. The Braves rotation now features Dallas Keuchel, Max Fried, Mike Soroka and Julio Teheran. Bryse Wilson pitched well in his last start and the Brian Snitker has already indicated that he will be returning on July 16 to face the Brewers. Mike Foltynewicz is at Triple-A working on things but will also likely be returning to the majors at some point.

As these situations tend to sometimes work themselves out, the important thing for Gausman is for him to get himself right and headed back in the right direction. He is still several weeks away from a major league return but with his rehab period starting tonight, the clock is now ticking.

Teheran has struggled of late but hasn’t allowed a run against the Marlins all season.

Fresh off of a series win over the Philadelphia Phillies, the Atlanta Braves will wrap up their final series before heading off into the All-Star break with a three-game set against the Miami Marlins.

The Braves took two of three from the Phillies including a five homer outburst on Thursday in which they erased a 4-0 deficit in a 12-6 win. Atlanta now has a 6.0 game lead over second place Washington in the NL East standings.

The Braves will be looking to keep the pressure on the Nationals and the Phillies and to continue their recent dominance of the Marlins. Atlanta has won eight of the nine meetings between the two teams this season including a three-game sweep in Miami back in early June.

Julio Teheran will be looking to get back on track after allowing a combined 15 runs in his last three starts. Teheran has been really good against the Marlins this season however. He allowed just two hits and struck out four over six shutout innings back on May 5 in Miami. He followed that up with another two-hit, six inning shutout performance on June 8. Teheran has a 3.89 ERA in 22 career starts against Miami.

Miami will counter with right-hander Jordan Yamamoto who is off to a great start since being promoted from Triple-A. Yamamoto has allowed just six runs across his four starts and has racked up 23 strikeouts in 23 innings pitched. He was tagged for four runs in just four innings of his last start against the Phillies.

The Braves have homered eight times during their homestand and are sixth in the majors with 140 on the season.
