It was certainly an eventful day down in the Braves’ minor league system especially if you like to see power. Sunday saw Jesse Franklin have another monster game while he was joined in the homer column by William Contreras, Drew Lugbauer, and Travis Demeritte.

Gwinnett Stripers 7, Norfolk Tides 1

Box Score

  • Cristian Pache, DH: 1-2, R, 2 BB, .246/.323/.401
  • Travis Demeritte, RF: 2-4, R, 4 RBI, HR, SB, .327/.437/.708
  • William Contreras, C: 1-4, R, 2 RBI, HR, .377/.441/.868
  • Tanner Roark, SP: 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K, 2.64 ERA
  • Victor Arano, RP: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K, 3.86 ERA

Gwinnett went with a bullpen game and they pitched very well overall. Tanner Roark started and went three scoreless with three strikeouts while allowing just one hit and no walks. Connor Johnstone followed and tossed two innings giving up only a solo homer before giving way to Victor Arano who struck out the side in order during his inning of work. Scoreless innings from Jay Flaa, Jesse Biddle, and Yoan Lopez followed to close out a strong group effort.

While the offense looked like this was a very one sided game, it was actually a game driven by a pair of homers, a grand slam by Travis Demerritte and a two run shot by William Contreras. Demeritte also added a single and a stolen base, joining Cristian Pache (1-for-2, two walks) and Philip Ervin (1-for-3, walk, and two steals) as Stripers to reach base multiple times in this game.

Next Game: 7/27 @ Memphis @ 8:10 PM ET

Probable Starters

Both TBD

Biloxi Shuckers 4, Mississippi Braves 3

Box Score

  • Drew Lugbauer, 1B: 2-4, R, 3 RBI, 2B, HR, .258/.370/.473
  • Braden Shewmake, SS: 3-4, R, 2B, .223/.268/.386
  • Hayden Deal, SP: 6 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 6 K, 3.91 ERA
  • Brooks Wilson, RP: 1.1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 1 K, 2.05 ERA

Hayden Deal turned in another quality start on Sunday, going six innings while allowing two runs, five hits and a walk to go along with six strikeouts. Odalvi Javier was tagged for two runs, which scored after he was replaced by Brooks Wilson costing the Braves a chance to win with the blown save.

The Braves offense was very quiet outside of a 2-for-4 day with a homer, double, and 3 RBI by Drew Lugbauer. Braden Shewmake went 3-for-4 with a double, but unfortunately that was all the offense we saw from Mississippi Sunday.

Probable Starters

Both TBD

Bowling Green Hot Rods 8, Rome Braves 6

Box Score

  • Jesse Franklin, CF: 3-4, 2 R, 4 RBI, 2 HR, .254/.324/.552
  • Kevin Josephina, 3B: 2-5, R, 2 RBI, 2B, .276/.318/.385
  • Beau Philip, SS: 1-4, 2B, .188/.274/.288
  • Darius Vines, SP: 5.1 IP, 4 H, 5 R, 2 BB, 8 K, 4.45 ERA
  • Zach Daniels, RP: 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K, 1.71 ERA

Darius Vines started and seemed to be in almost complete control through 5 1/3 innings, allowing two runs on a homer in the second inning while recording eight strikeouts. Then the wheels fell off with a double, an RBI single, and another two-run homer to three consecutive batters to end his day and turn his pitching line from very strong to a rough outing. Still, he was in place to get the win anyway, but Coleman Huntley allowed three runs over 1 2/3 innings and took the loss.

It’s no surprise that with the offense rolling a bit for Rome that Jesse Franklin was a big part of it, going 3-for-4 with a pair of homers and 4 RBI, as he continues to tear up High A pitching. These two homers bring Franklin to 17 on the year, an especially impressive total considering his slow start to the season. Kevin Josephina went 2-for-5 with a double and a pair of RBI, while Shean Michel (2-for-5) and Brett Langhorne (2-for-4) also had multi-hit days.

Next Game: 7/27 vs Asheville @ 7:00 PM ET

Probable Starters

Both TBD

Columbia Fireflies 4, Augusta GreenJackets 1

Box Score

  • Victor De Hoyos, C: 2-4, .258/.289/.418
  • Chad Bryant, SP: 2.1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 2 K, 7.11 ERA
  • Rolddy Munoz, RP: 1.2 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 0 K, 12.46 ERA

Sunday was a forgettable outing for the Augusta squad right from the start. Chad Bryant opened the game and gave up an unearned run over 2 1/3 innings before turning things over to Rolddy Munoz, who really battled his command in this one. Gabriel Rodriguez was next and he allowed a run over 1 1/3 before Ben Thompson and Lisandro Santos combined for 2 2/3 scoreless innings to close things out.

The pitching was actually the bright spot for Augusta on Sunday as the GreenJacket lineup combined for five singles, one walk, and one run scored. Victor De Hoyos went 2-for-4 and was the only player to reach base more than once. Braulio Vasquez went 1-for-3 and scored the lone run for Augusta.
