Sunday saw more rain and two cancellations, with only two games played. Gwinnett didn’t have a strong game outside of Johan Camargo, but in Touki Toussaint’s second rehab start things went a lot better for Mississippi.

Nashville Sounds 6, Gwinnett Stripers 2

Box Score

  • Johan Camargo, 1B: 3-4, R, .318/.416/.495
  • Jason Kipnis, LF: 1-3, R, BB, .259/.386/.397
  • Drew Waters, RF: 0-3, BB, .272/.371/.404
  • Tanner Roark, RP: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 5 K, 3.06 ERA
  • Thomas Burrows, RP: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K, 4.20 ERA

Connor Johnstone got another start as the opener on Sunday, and struggled giving up two runs in the first and another run in the second before leaving for Tanner Roark. Roark pitched two innings allowing a hit and a walk while striking out five of the six outs he recorded. Chasen Bradford was next and allowed a two run homer to Keston Hiura in his inning before things settled down a bit. Following Bradford we saw Jay Flaa, Trevor Kelley, and Thomas Burrows all work a scoreless frame before Jesse Biddle allowed another run in the ninth.

Gwinnett didn’t have a ton of offense outside of Johan Camargo going 3-for-4 while scoring a run and Jason Kipnis going 1-for-3 with a walk and the other run scored. The duo combined for four of the six Stripers hits with one by pinch hitter Travis Snider and a single by Ryan Goins, who finished with 2 RBI. Drew Waters went 0-for-3 but did earn a walk and Cristian Pache finished 0-for-4 with a strikeout in each of his plate appearances.

  • Shea Langeliers, C: 1-5, R, RBI, HR, .246/.346/.542

  • Matt Withrow, RP: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 2 K, 1.93 ERA

Touki Toussaint made his second rehab start on Sunday, going one out short of four innings while allowing a pair of runs on a hit and two walks, also striking out four. Touki was especially on with his stuff and command in the first two innings before he lost a little of that going forward. Odalvi Javier followed and allowed four runs to score in just 1 1/3 innings. That was all the scoring as none of the rest of the Mississippi pitchers allowed a run including an inning from Matt Withrow, two from Brooks Wilson, and one final inning from Brandon White to close this one out.

The Mississippi offense did some work Sunday, led by Drew Lugbauer. Lugbauer went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with all extra base hits (2 2B, HR), a pair of runs, and two RBI. Shea Langeliers added his 10th homer of the season, while Braden Shewmake continued to hit going 2-for-4 with a double. Wendell Rijo went 1-for-2 and walked twice to reach base in three of his four plate appearances. Speaking of steals we also got two from Justin Dean to bring his total to 12, along with a 1-for-4 day that included an RBI.
