After suffering yet another one-run loss Saturday, the Atlanta Braves will try to salvage a series split when they wrap up a seven-game road trip against the Colorado Rockies. Atlanta opened their trip with a three-game sweep in Los Angeles. They took the opener in Colorado 6-5 but then dropped the next two games 4-3 and 7-6. They still hold a two game lead over the Philadelphia Phillies in the NL East standings but the Mets are now just 3.5 back as things are tightening up with just four weeks remaining in the regular season.
Charlie Morton will be on the mound for the Braves Sunday and is coming off of a great August. Morton allowed three hits and one run over six innings in his last start against the Dodgers. He has allowed three runs or less in nine of his last 10 starts. He allowed just 11 runs in 35 innings in August to go along with 46 strikeouts and just seven walks over that span.
The Rockies had planned to start Austin Gomber in Sunday’s game but he was placed on the injured list Saturday with a stress fracture in his back which will end his season. Instead, Colorado will call up right-hander Ryan Feltner from Double-A to make his major league debut. Feltner has a 2.85 ERA and a 3.52 FIP in 72 2/3 innings for Hartford. FanGraphs has him ranked as the Rockies’ 18th best prospect with a 40 Future Value.
Sunday’s game is scheduled to get underway at 3:10 p.m. ET and can be seen on Bally Sports Southeast.
