After suffering a 6-4 loss Saturday, the Atlanta Braves will try to score a series win in the rubber match of their three-game series against the Miami Marlins Sunday. The Braves battled back from an early deficit but only to watch the game slip away late. Atlanta will enter play Sunday with a 3.5 game advantage over the Philadelphia Phillies in the NL East standings.
Max Fried will make his 25th start of the season for the Braves Sunday and will be looking to continue what has been a sparkling second half. After posting a 4.71 ERA and a 4.03 FIP over his first 72 2/3 innings, Fried has a 1.97 ERA and a 2.92 FIP over his last 64 innings. He wasn’t at his best during his last start against Washington but held them to just one run over six innings despite allowing six hits and four walks.
The Marlins will go with rookie right-hander Edward Cabrera who will be making his fourth start. Cabrera is Miami’s fifth ranked prospect according to Baseball America and FanGraphs but has struggled over his first three starts. He has allowed 12 hits and 10 runs, including four homers over his first 12 2/3 innings. Throwing strikes has been a huge issue as he has seven walks and has hit four batters.
Sunday’s game has a scheduled start time of 1:20 p.m. ET and can be seen on Bally Sports Southeast.
