After dropping two straight and losing Ozzie Albies for what is hopefully only a few games, the Braves are rolling out this lineup for their series finale at Dodger Stadium:
Ehire Adrianza will make his third start of the season at second base, while Joc Pederson remains in center field and slides up to leadoff. Dansby Swanson is hitting second in Jorge Soler’s absence, while Eddie Rosario gets a start and hits sixth behind Travis d’Arnaud. I don’t really get it as a lineup, but it is what it is.
Meanwhile, Los Angeles will line up this way:
The Dodgers don’t repeat lineups much, and this isn’t a deviation from that, as it’s novel. The Braves get a bit of a reprieve given that Austin Barnes is in there instead of Will Smith, but there’s not much for Max Fried to take lightly here.
The Braves are pretty familiar with Scherzer, but with the lineup shuffle, it’s not as familiar as you’d think. Kinda wild that Riley only has 5 PAs against Scherzer so far!
And the Dodgers, well, none of them are strangers to Max Fried, and most of them have hit him hard in limited opportunities:
And here’s the Statcast graphic. I have to tell you, staring at the Dodgers portion of this, it’s a little bewildering that they have lost as many games as they have so far, and that the Braves took a series from them earlier this season. Hopefully they’ll win today and earn a split for the season series.
Stay up for first pitch, if you’re on the East Coast!
