The Atlanta Braves and San Francisco Giants will meet again Sunday in the rubber match of a three-game series at Truist Park. The Braves took the opener 6-5 but were shut out by Logan Webb and the Giants bullpen 5-0 Saturday after going 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position while leaving eight men on base. They will be looking for a better performance Sunday.
Ian Anderson is scheduled to return from the injured list and will be making his first appearance since July 11. Anderson lasted just 2 1/3 innings that day while allowing four runs against the Marlins. He was placed on the injured list due with shoulder inflammation. Anderson made four rehab starts at Gwinnett posting a 3.68 ERA and a 2.49 FIP to go along with 20 strikeouts in 14 2/3 innings. Brian Snitker said Saturday that Anderson is stretched out but that they will monitor him Sunday.
“I think he’s good with however long he’ll take the game,” Snitker said. “It’s going to be different, just like with Huascar. The intensity, the adrenaline, everything when you’re out here is different than what it is in the rehab starts. We’ll monitor that. It’s going to be a Sunday afternoon, it is going to be hot, humid, so we’ll see where it takes us.”
The Giants announced following Saturday’s game that right-hander Anthony DeSclafani will return from the injured list and start Sunday’s series finale. DeSclafani was placed on the injured list with right ankle inflammation on August 19. He came through a side session with no problems and is ready to return.
He has pitched well for most of the season but has also been slowed by some shoulder soreness in August where he has allowed 13 hits and six earned runs in 10 2/3 innings.
Sunday’s game has a scheduled start time of 1:20 p.m. ET and can be seen on Bally Sports Southeast and TBS.
