As expected, the Atlanta Braves have appointed right-hander Bryse Wilson as their 27th man for Wednesday’s doubleheader against the San Diego Padres. Wilson will start Game 2 opposite of Padres rookie Reiss Knehr who will be making his second career appearance.
The #Braves appointed RHP Bryse Wilson as the club’s 27th man for today’s doubleheader. In addition, the team activated C Alex Jackson from the 60-day injured list and optioned him to Triple-A Gwinnett.— Atlanta Braves (@Braves) July 21, 2021
Wilson has made six starts at the Major League level in 2021 with varying degrees of success. He was tagged for five runs in just four innings in his last start against the Cardinals back on June 20.
The Braves also activated catcher Alex Jackson from the 60-day injured list and optioned him to Gwinnett. Atlanta is set for the time being at catcher with Stephen Vogt seeing the bulk of playing time since he was acquired from the Diamondbacks. Kevan Smith has shifted into more of a reserve role and Travis d’Arnaud is expected back sometime in August. Jackson is hitting .269/.337/.667 with nine home runs in 24 games for Gwinnett.
