Unfortunately the show must go on. The Atlanta Braves will close out the first half of the 2021 season Sunday afternoon against the Miami Marlins. The Braves climbed back to .500 for the season and extended their winning streak to three straight with a 5-4 win Saturday. A win Sunday would give them their first winning record of the season.
However, all of that is secondary as the Braves are still reeling from the news that Ronald Acuña Jr. will miss the remainder of the season with a torn ACL in his right knee. Acuña suffered the injury in Saturday’s win and had to be carted off the field. Now Atlanta must go on without their best player.
Ian Anderson will be on the mound for Atlanta Sunday. Anderson wasn’t sharp in his last outing but battled it out and the Braves a chance to win allowing five hits and three walks but just one run over five innings.
Miami will counter with righty Pablo Lopez who was ejected in his last start against Atlanta when he hit Acuña with the first pitch of the game. He started earlier this week and held the Dodgers to four hits and a single run but left after just four innings. Lopez hasn’t had a lot of success against the Braves in his career posting a 5.85 ERA in 11 career starts.
