While the Braves struggles overall are at the forefront of fans’ minds, the biggest news from Saturday was actually regarding a player that hasn’t played for the team all season and, as has often been the case in 2021, the news was a real gut punch. It was reported that Mike Soroka, who had literally just gotten out of his walking boot, re-ruptured his Achilles tendon. Not only did that end any speculation that he could be back this season, but also put his 2022 season and beyond in doubt.
Braves fans also heard that Tucker Davidson was examined and was not cleared to start throwing again which further explains why the Braves shifted him to the 60-day IL earlier this week. In short, not a fun Saturday at all for Braves fans.
In other less than great news, the Braves could not cash in on the opportunities they did get in Saturday’s game against the Reds and ultimately fell to them by the score of 4-1. Ian pitched pretty well, but the team’s offensive woes continued.
We recap every Braves’ minor league game here at Talking Chop and Friday evening was no different. It was a bit of a mixed bag on Friday with some key prospects either having the night off or not performing great, but others like Michael Harris, Bryce Ball, and Hayden Deal showing out.
The Blue Jays are going to miss a start out of one of their top young arms as Alek Manoah ended up getting suspended for hitting a batter (questionably on purpose) after giving up a couple of homers.
The surprising Giants are going to be without a key offensive cog as Brandon Belt is headed to the IL with an injured knee. He may have a 10-day designation, but it sounds like knee surgery is on the table and he could be out for a while.
