After Friday night’s struggles in their series opener against the Phillies, the Atlanta Braves announced a flurry of roster moves to add a couple of fresh arms to the bullpen. The Braves recalled right-handers Jasseel De La Cruz and Victor Arano from Triple-A and designated Carl Edwards Jr. for assignment. The team also optioned reserve infielder Sean Kazmar to Gwinnett.

The Braves acquired Arano off of waivers from the Phillies this offseason. He was a valuable piece of Philadelphia’s bullpen in 2018 where he posted a 2.73 ERA and a 3.36 FIP in 59 1/3 innings. Injuries limited him to just 4 2/3 innings in 2019 and he didn’t pitch at all in 2020. He struggled in a small sample during the spring but had been working at the alternate site and began the season in Gwinnett’s bullpen where he allowed a homer and struck out two in his only appearance.

De La Cruz was also working out of the Gwinnett bullpen after spending most of his professional career as a starter. He had made one appearance for the Stripers allowing two hits and a run in 2/3 of an inning.

Edwards Jr. signed a minor league deal with the team after he opted out of his contract during spring training. He was added to the roster Friday but was ineffective in his only appearance allowing three hits, three runs and a homer while retiring just one batter.

Kazmar was added back to the roster during the road trip earlier this week. He has appeared in a total of three games and has seen two plate appearances in 2021.
