There is Atlanta Braves minor league baseball this week. One more time for the people in the back: THERE IS ATLANTA BRAVES MINOR LEAGUE BASEBALL THIS WEEK.
Welcome back, old friend. For the first time in well more than a calendar year, the Braves farm system will be back in action. Since there will be no games on Mondays this year, each week we’ll take a look ahead at what to watch.
Hopefully in the near future, we’ll have more of a sense of the rotation of pitchers and everyday lineups, and provide a more detailed approach. But for this first week, sit back and enjoy watching Braves minor league baseball once again.
AUGUSTA GREENJACKETS — LOW-A
May 4 through May 9: vs. Columbia Fireflies
What to watch: The newest Braves affiliate opens at home.
ROME BRAVES — HIGH-A
May 4 through May 9: at Winston-Salem
What to watch: Michael Harris will start the year at Rome and has turned from the guy we loved to talk about here to one of the fastest risers in the public eye. Bryce Ball is also expected to start in Rome, so we’ll see how his big bat looks after a year off.
MISSISSIPPI BRAVES — DOUBLE-A
May 4 through May 9: vs. Pensacola
What to watch: You can expect several highly-ranked prospects to start in Double-A this season. While nothing is official, we think you can expect to see Shea Langeliers, Trey Harris and Braden Shewmake in this Opening Day lineup
GWINNETT BRAVES — TRIPLE-A
May 4 through May 9: at Charlotte
What to watch: Alternate site no more. Gwinnett is back to hosting live baseball. The Stripers take the field as reigning South Division champions in the Queen City in arguably MiLB’s best stadium.
