The Atlanta Braves nearly pulled off a big comeback Sunday, but fell just shy falling 10-9 to the Milwaukee Brewers. Atlanta still came away with a series win and will return to Truist Park on Monday to face the New York Mets for the first time this season. The Mets currently lead the NL East division with an 18-16 record. At 19-21, the Braves are just two games back.

Max Fried will be on the mound for the Braves in Monday’s series opener and will be followed by Charlie Morton on Tuesday and Drew Smyly Wednesday.

Taijuan Walker will start Monday’s game for New York. Tuesday’s starter has yet to be announced and lefty David Peterson will get the call Wednesday. Atlanta won’t have to worry about facing Mets’ ace Jacob deGrom who is still on the 10-day injured list due to some discomfort in his right side. It looks like the earliest deGrom might return would be on Friday against the Marlins.

New York is also bringing some injury concerns into Monday’s series opener. Michael Conforto and Jeff McNeil exited Sunday’s loss to the Tampa Bay Rays early due to hamstring injuries. Both are scheduled to under MRI exams Monday and could be placed on the injured list then.

The Los Angeles Dodgers took another hit Saturday night when Corey Seager was hit in the hand by a pitch from Ross Detwiler. Seager was placed on the 10-day injured list but Dave Roberts said that he will not have to undergo surgery. Seager is still expected to miss at least a month.

The Dodgers could activate lefty David Price as soon as Monday according to Roberts. Price has been on the injured list for nearly three weeks due to a hamstring strain. Once activated, he will return to a relief role out of the Dodgers’ bullpen.

The Miami Marlins got a key part of their lineup back on Sunday when they activated Jazz Chisolm from the 10-day injured list. Chisholm started at shortstop and went 2-for-5 with a run scored in Miami’s 3-2 win over the Dodgers. Chisholm is now hitting .297/.376/.541 with seven homers in 22 games this season.

The Houston Astros placed righty Jose Urquidy on the 10-day injured list Sunday. Urquidy left Wednesday’s start due to some shoulder discomfort.

It has been a busy weekend for the Rays and that continued Sunday when they acquired utilityman Wyatt Mathisen from the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for cash considerations. Mathison had been designated for assignment earlier this week.

The Toronto Blue Jays have signed reliever Carl Edwards Jr. to a minor league contract. He will report to Triple-A. Edwards made a single relief appearance for the Braves where he allowed three runs and retired just one batter. He cleared waivers and opted for free agency rather than accept an assignment to Gwinnett.
