The Atlanta Braves saw a three-run lead slip away in a 6-5, walk-off loss to the Washington Nationals Tuesday evening. The loss drops Atlanta to 0-4 on the season.
Atlanta’s offense showed signs of life with Ronald Acuña Jr. launching a home run on the first pitch of the game from Max Scherzer. The Braves hit four solo homers off Scherzer in all with Acuña adding another in the third. Freddie Freeman and Dansby Swanson also connected for solo shots in the game.
However, Atlanta’s bullpen was unable to protect the lead as Tyler Matzek, A.J. Minter and Will Smith combined to allow six hits, three walks and two runs in 1 2/3 innings. Juan Soto walked things off in the ninth against Smith with a single to center that scored Victor Robles to give the Nationals the win.
